MBBS OR BDS? WHICH CAREER SHOULD I CHOOSE and Why?
After Pre-Medical Fsc students wonder to choose either an MBBS or BDS course as a career. Here we will discuss in detail both fields are which field students choose. Both MBBS and BDS is demanding course and many students apply to get admission.
MBBS or BDS
- MBBS full form is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
- BDS full form is Bachelours of Dental Surgery
Closing Merit
If we compare and talk about the closing merits of MBBS and BDS then we can clearly see that the closing merits of MBBS are higher as compared to BDS either in Public or Private sector Medical Colleges. This is because more students choose MBBS courses. So If you have more marks in the MDCAT and FSC board exams then your chances to get admission in MBBS are increased and if you have a lower percentage then you must consider BDS.
Scope of MBBS and BDS
If we talk about the scope of both fields then it must be said that both fields have it own scope. Whether you get MBBS or BDS you have to create your own scope in the field. The scope doesn't come by completing or getting a degree but you have to skill and work to get the scope out of the field after graduation.
Degree Time durations
MBBS is a 05-year program plus 01-year house job training and BDS is 04 year Degree program with 01-year house job training. so you can see you can be a complete Dental surgeon after 5 years but on the other hand you have to pass 6 years in MBBS.

Interest matters
Whether you want to go in any career first thing that matters a lot that do you have a self-interest in that career or not. Which means do you really want to be a Doctor or Not? If the answer is yes then you must follow your interest. because after all you can complete your studies in any field but after graduation, the real thing comes when you start working as a career job. If you have no interest in Medicine or in Dentistry then even after getting a Degree in it you won't find any pleasure doing this career and then there will be no comeback. so better think wisely and consider your will before opting for a Career.
Fee Structure
If we talk about fee structure then as the course for BDS is less so the fee structure in BDS is less than that of MBBS. Fee structure does not really matter in Public or Government sector Medical colleges as their Fee is already affordable but in Private Sector Medical or Dental colleges, it really counts as they are charging more than a Million rupees for each academic year. so you can get a BDS degree while spending less as compared to MBBS.
Jobs Market
If we talk about the Number of MBBS or Medical officers and BDS Dental jobs then you can really check by asking yourself how many more times you have visited MBBS Doctor or a Dental BDS doctor. so the answer of Most of you will be MBBS doctor. so you can see that the demand of MBBS doctors is more as compared to BDS doctors so the number of JOBS for MBBS is more. Nut due to a higher number of Graduates in MBBS there is more competition in MBBS.
Higher Studies and Specializations
After doing MBBS you must go for 04 years of FCPS or MRCP Specialization but in BDS you don't really need Specializations until you really want to.
Number of Seats
