NLE Exam In Pakistan Preparations & Syllabus PMDC
NLE is the abbreviation of the National Licences Exam conducted by PMC to Improve and Standardize the Medical Education and Practices in Pakistan. NLE is started by PMC succeeding PMDC and It is a mandatory Exam for Medical Students after completing Undergraduate Studies and wanna Practice Medicine and Surgery in the country.NLE becomes Mandatory for getting practicing Licenses. Both MBBS and BDS doctors are required to clear the NLE exam. NLE is not new in its form, Even US conducts USMLE and UK conducts the PLAB exam and this exam is mandatory before becoming a practicing Doctor in the respective country.
Students oppose the NLE exam in the Country and state there are many other exams Like FCPS, MD/MS, and IMM in Pakistan so no need for another exam and making a burden for students.
NLE Exam is conducted by PMDC and It is MCQs Computer Based exam conducted throughout the country. minimum 70% marks are required to qualify it.
NLE Parts
NLE is MCQs-based and also a clinical assessment. NLE consists of two parts.
- Theory Part
- Clinical Skilled Examination CSE
Attempt Limit
There is no attempt limit for the NLE exam and students can make as many attempts for qualifying for the exam.
Theory Component
It will have both Basic and Clinical Sciences MCQs. and The theory Part will have a total of 200 MCQs in which 70% of MCQs will be from clinical sciences and 30% MCQs will be from basic sciences.

Applied Basic Sciences (30% Weightage Total 60 MCQs)
- Applied Pathology 16 MCQ’s
- Applied Anatomy 12 MCQ’s
- Applied Physiology 10 MCQ’s
- Clinical Pharmacology 8 MCQ’s
- Applied Bio Chemistry 6 MCQ’s
- Community Medicine 6 MCQ’s
- Forensic Medicine & Toxicology 2 MCQ’s

Clinical Sciences Weightage 70% Total 140 MCQs
- Medicine and Allied 52 MCQs
- Surgery and Allied 48 MCQs
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology 14 MCQs
- Pediatrics 14 MCQs
- Ophthalmology (Eye) 6 MCQs
- Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) 6 MCQs
Clinical Skilled Examination CSE
it consists of 20 stations, out of which 03 stations will be compulsory stages to pass. Failing one compulsory station will result in failing the whole exam. The time for CSE will be of 3 hours and 3 Minutes.

- Medicine and Allied has 7 Stations
- Surgery and Allied 7 Stations
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology 2 Stations
- Pediatrics 2 Stations
- Ophthalmology (Eye) 1 Station
- Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) 1 Station
Note: Mandatory Stations are 1 station each from the Medicine & allied, Surgery & allied, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Negative Marking
There will be negative markings in both parts of the NLE exam.
NLE Exam Fee
The fee for the NLE exam is 12,000 RP.
NLE Step 1 and NLE Step 2
Local Graduates only Need to qualify NLE Step 1 but Foreign Candidates need to qualify for both NLE step 1 and NLE Step 2
NLE Exam 2022 Dates
The NLE will be held four times a year; June, September, December & March to ensure students can attempt a retake within 3 months.
