The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has recently implemented a groundbreaking policy change that affects students from FSC Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, and ICS backgrounds, allowing a broader range of students to apply for engineering programs. This shift is aimed at addressing the changing academic and career aspirations of students, while also meeting the demands of the engineering field.
For FSC Pre-Medical students, who traditionally focused on subjects like biology, PEC now allows them to apply for engineering degrees. Up to 40% of the seats in engineering programs can be allocated to these students. However, to ensure they have the necessary foundation, they are required to complete an eight-week mathematics course before starting their engineering studies.

For Pre-Engineering students, the policy has remained the same, as they already have a background in mathematics and physics, which are crucial for engineering.
Students from the ICS (Intermediate in Computer Science) background, who typically focus on subjects like computer science, mathematics, and physics, are also included in this policy. This opens opportunities for them to explore fields in computer and software engineering, capitalizing on their computer science knowledge while meeting engineering admission requirements.

Lastly, the PEC has set a minimum eligibility requirement across all these categories. To qualify for engineering programs, students must have achieved at least 60% marks in their intermediate exams.
